APAKAH BENAR SERING BERMAIN TIKTOK MENURUNKAN ATTENTION SPAN MAHASISWA?

Abstract


Perkembangan era digital mendorong peningkatan signifikan dalam penggunaan media sosial, termasuk TikTok yang kini menjadi salah satu platform paling populer di kalangan mahasiswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji perbedaan attention span antara mahasiswa dengan durasi penggunaan TikTok ekstrem atas dan ekstrem bawah. Penelitian menggunakan metode kuantitatif dengan desain komparatif between-subject. Partisipan berjumlah 24 mahasiswa yang dipilih menggunakan teknik extreme group, terdiri atas 12 mahasiswa dengan durasi penggunaan TikTok ekstrem atas (Kelompok A) dan 12 mahasiswa dengan durasi ekstrem bawah (Kelompok B). Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner demografis dan tangkapan layar durasi penggunaan TikTok, sedangkan attention span diukur menggunakan Stroop Task. Analisis data menggunakan independent samples t-test menunjukkan tidak terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara kedua kelompok (t = -1.813, p = .084, effect size = -.740). Meskipun demikian, kelompok dengan durasi penggunaan ekstrem atas (M = -54.08, SD = 374.0) menunjukkan kecenderungan memiliki perhatian yang lebih rendah dibandingkan kelompok ekstrem bawah (M = 165.00, SD = 188.1). Temuan ini mengindikasikan adanya kecenderungan potensial, alih-alih efek yang terkonfirmasi secara statistik, dari paparan video pendek terhadap attention span mahasiswa. Implikasi penelitian ini menekankan pentingnya penerapan desain pembelajaran yang mendorong pemrosesan kognitif aktif serta integrasi strategi regulasi digital di lingkungan akademik guna memitigasi dampak atensi yang terfragmentasi.
