PERSEPSI MAHASISWA UIN MALANG TERHADAP REPRESENTASI WANITA DI DALAM BUKU AJAR UIN MALANG

This study aims to examine the perceptions of students at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang regarding the representation of women in the Arabic language textbook Arabiyyah li al-Hayah (ALH), volumes 1 to 4. The study employed a qualitative method with a corpus-based critical discourse analysis approach. Primary data were collected from the ALH textbook texts, which were converted into plain text files and analyzed using AntConc 4.3.1 to explore collocations and co-occurrences of the words “wanita” (woman) and “perempuan” (female). Secondary data were obtained through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) involving 104 students from the Arabic Language Development Program (PKPBA). The findings indicate that the representation of women in the ALH textbook is generally positive and diverse, encompassing roles in domestic life, professional fields, education, social involvement, and politics. Students perceive women as having equal rights, capacities, and contributions as men in various spheres of life. However, the study is limited by the scope of data, which only includes one type of textbook and participants from a single institution. Future studies are recommended to involve a wider variety of Arabic textbooks from different publishers and educational levels and to apply deeper visual and narrative analysis to assess whether such representations genuinely promote substantive and sustainable gender equality.
